I was sitting in my office today at the firehouse and looked out the window. i keep seeing fish coming out of the water chasing something. at first i thought it was maybe carp just hitting the top of the water. i decided to walk down to the lake and check it out. it was bass chasing small bluegills, not a big deal. the big surprize was to come. there were probably 40-50 large bluegills on beds that were chasing the little ones away from the beds. when the little ones swam away the bass nailed them. i thought " time to get a pole". i went back to the lake and fished for a while. ended up catching 5 or 6 little bass(1 to 2 lbs) on top water baits. then i switched to a red eye shad ( sexy shad color) and caught 1 about 3 or 31/2 lbs.
and a catfish about 1 1/2 lbs.
is it the full moon or the weather that has me or the fish confused?

I vote that you're confused.

i talked to doug and he said that the bluegills are also on the beds at his dad's pond. i just thought it was pretty late in the year for the fish to be bedding.
eric i may be confused but not dreaming. we have been catching bass everytime we go to the firehouse lake. just wish we could put a boat out there.

Bluegill will spawn 2 to 3 times a year. Most of the time their is to much vegitation to seem after the first one. And not all of them will spawn together. Full moon can make many people and feeesh confused......... Try a floating worm next time.

thanks for jumping in sisezz73. i have never had any luck on a trick worm unless it is on a shaky head jig. any tips on them would be great. can even start a new post i am sure it would help others as well. doug

Well... I hate to get off bass now, but I caught 38 spawning bluegill the other night (released about 20 dinks), plus 8 that a guy gave me. I'm glad I'm thinning the herd there.

So I had to clean 47 (I'd caught one the night before while bassin').

Oh... and the bass are on fire, probably due to the 'gill spawn. Caught 5 in like 2 hours on a Stupid Tube.

And its a pond I go to behind an apartment complex where most guys who fish for bluegill toss em back.

We got a few pounds of meat. And heads for stock, scales and guts for the garden.
